This thesis tries to find out regional factors of Gorge Luis Borges'works, analyze what he has learned from other writers on the idea of philosophy and literature, and finally explicate his idea of literature. There are five chapters in this paper. The first one mainly points out the formation background of Borges'idea of literature. The second one reviews Borges'idea of functions of literature. He thought that the pleasure of reading and writing lay in people's feelings. Besides, he fulfilled his idea of literature in the trace of escaping away from politics. His non-politics writing and no alternative to it interweaved in his writing career. The third chapter analyzes his idea of the relation of literature and reality and explicates four realities such as vision, time, dream and death created in his novels. The fourth chapter is the discussion of his idea of characters among which"one"and"many"are difficult to differentiate. To a certain extent, numerous characters can be regarded as"one"in his novels. Borges thought that human nature split and evolved. The last chapter is the analysis of his idea of narration. He commanded articles with a series of tension and established tridimensional structures with destruction and construction where time was the narrative introduction and played an important part in constructing the novels. The conclusion attempts to discuss the effect of Borges'great works and explain that just because of the effect Chinese contemporary writers wrote down many novels of Borges'style. Finally this paper explores Borges'localization in the world's history of literature.
