Idioms is a popular form of Chinese expression because it's concise, clear and vivid. It's necessary for foreign students whose Chinese level belongs to middle and high-ranking stage to study idioms to improve their Chinese, and the idioms is also a good window for them to understand Chinese traditional culture. This thesis tries to research the problem of teaching idioms for foreigners from a cultural perspective and solve the actual problem.This paper is divided into five parts. The first part is the introduction. First, from the idioms characteristics and the status and significance of teaching idioms to foreigners to describe the importance of researching idioms in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. And on the base of summarying and appraising other people's research ,to expound the significance of this article's research.The second part is the error analysis when students understand and use idioms. The focus of this paper is the difficulties in the cultural aspect that students encounter in understanding and using idioms, to explain and analyze the difficulties, this paper collected 1000 idioms, according to their representative, characteristics and use, chose some to survey if the students in the higher grades understand them. From the survey, the paper summed up some reasons that students cannot correctly understand and use idioms :1, The "Words vacancy" dues to different social and cultural backgrounds; 2, Students misunderstand the actual meaning because of different social and cultural backgrounds; 3,The different concept because of different social and cultural backgrounds. And finallyt made the whole analysis to the survey result.The third part described the idioms in the current senior texts of teaching Chinese as a foreign language are rich in culture. With the research of Chinese idioms itself, analyzed the idioms in the texts in cultural aspect. From the material culture, system culture and psychological culture dimensions to study and analyze the idioms . The material culture includes food and clothes, buildings, containers and tools ,geographical environment, and various "objects", and so on; System culture in the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language idioms usually includes: patriarchal and marriage, social rituals and customs, military and legal, political and educational; and the deep part of culture - psychological culture which the idioms reflect, also contains wealth content, such as the traditional concept of the Han people, the ways of thinking, religious beliefs and aesthetic taste.Most of the students with different cultural backgrounds can't understand and use the idioms properly, part four gave some corresponding measures with some cognitive linguistics and cognitive psychology knowledge. The firstmeasure is filling vocabulary vacancies,.Including explains the important word,recounts the fable story and introduces religion culture. Next is introducing deep cultural meaning .Including guides the students to understand the idiom on the whole and inspires them to associate.The third measure is comparing Han and foreign potential concepts. Including the traditional ideas contrast, the connotative meaning contrast and the coordinated translation.The final part is a conclusion. Summarized the basic content of the thesis. Firstly,summed up some reasons that students cannot correctly understand and use idioms and the corresponding means. Then pointed out the possible limitation in this research, and carried on the forecast to the later research.Finally reiterated the cultural perspectives of the research and the desired objective of the paper.
