Jinwen Zhoushu was the oath and talk from the superior imperators in the process of execution in Zhou Dynasty, especially the west Zhou Dynasty.(Jinwen Zhoushu consists of 19 articles; all of them came out in west Zhou Dynasty except two that were emerged in east Zhou Dynasty).It was not only a precious document that was handed from Zhou Dynasty but also an important document that could used to analyze various social aspects of that dynasty. To some extent, its lexicon was representative for Zhou Dynasty, especially for west Zhou Dynasty. Moreover, lexicons in Zhou Dynasty were in the early stage of Chinese lexical evolution and development, and it had such a great influence on later lexical evolution that early elements of many modern Chinese lexicons could be more or less traced back to Jinwen Zhoushu. The lexicon in Jinwen Zhoushu is of vital importance in the analysis of Chinese lexical history.The synonyms in lexical system represent horizontal syntagmatic relations with the features and richness of synonyms at certain stage representing the developmental state, precision, delicacy and representing power, hence synonyms study is also a vital composing part of Chinese lexical study. Therefore, the study in synonyms in Jinwen Zhoushu is of great significance.First and foremost, this paper discusses the research orientation, the adopted scripts, significance, methodology, tasks and procedures of the study. Moreover, it touches upon the approximate time at which each articles in Jinwen Zhoushu were written, researches on lexicons of Jinwen Zhoushu as well as discusses the ways of identifying synonym relations.Then, on the basis of a full comprehension and understanding of text, deductive, comparative and exhaustive methods are used with guiding principle of one glosseme.130 groups of synonyms are identified, including 48 groups of noun synonyms, 64 verb synonyms and 18 adjective synonyms. On this basis, the 130 groups are discriminated to find out the discriminative elements of different synonym groups. This paper further summarizes these elements and offers some tentative explanations.In the end, this paper explores the following questions with regard to peculiarity of synonym studies: the solution to some synonym groups that have few instances of glosseme; the relationship between facilitating paraphrase in scholiastic documents and dictionaries and inferring lexical meaning from real language context; how to draw the boundaries of characters and words; the discrimination of meaning should be related to real material life and cultural background; avoid discrimination that use nowadays material life and cultural background as criteria; the problem of ancient lexical meaning and synonym discrimination.
