| After the War of 1894, in support of Japanese government, Japanese shipping expanded into Yangtze River Basin and littoral ports based on Shanghai. There have been four Japanese shipping companies in Yangtze River Basin. They were Daito Kisen Kaisha, Osaka Shosen Kaisha, Nippon Yusen Kaisha, and Konan Kisen Kaisha, and they competed against each other even to a disordered result. After that, in order to unite these companies and compete with other countries' shipping companies, Japanese government established a new company named Nisshin Kisen Kaisha in March 1907, so that it could usurp much more rights and interests.Nisshin Kisen Kaisha was a representation of Japanese shipping company in China before the Second World War. In its running for 32 years, Nisshin Kisen Kaisha has been accepting assistance capital from Japanese government which facilitated its regular development. It was a shipping company for representative of national policy, which shouldered the responsibility of Japanese national mission. This article will analyze the initiation and management of Nisshin Kisen Kaisha, and open out its status in shipping industry aggression and profound influence in society and economy of Yangtze River Basin. We think that Japanese investment in Chinese shipping industry before the Second World War was not only an economic act, but also one of the important decision-makings in Japan's aggression against China. Virtually, Nisshin Kisen Kaisha was an important tool in Japan's aggression against Chinese economy. |
