Theme Of Su Tong Novel

The study about on Sutong's novels mainly focuses on the art form rather than the theme perhaps because it is thought that the form has advantage over the theme .Though, in recent years there have been some studies on the theme of his novels, most of the studies have just discussed some aspect and other studies have dealt with the theme of his novels studying the imagery and local cultures .So there are seldom comprehensive studies on his novels' themes. The author thinks that Sutong's recent works increasingly show his thought about life and the world, rather just focusing on paronomasia and aesthetic effects. The themes which are hidden behind the forms are worth further exploring , including those hidden in his early avant-garde works. In this way ,we can get hold of the spirit clue in his two-dacade novels to understand his works still better. And at the same time, we can learn how a non-mianstream writer in literature expresses his concern about society.In the thesis ,the author started with combining the environment of the times when Sutong was born and grew with his works in order the to grasp the prime themes in his works .This thesis consist of three chapters. The first chapter represent the objective conditions where his works come out by analyzing the literary circumstance where lives and the characteristics of his novel themes. All these are necessary for the analysis of his works .Focus on the literature review of his works comes in the chapter two . From the review, we can find which areas Sutong chooses his novel materials and what he pays his attention to. Last comes chapter 3 in which the author analyses the creative themes of his works . The analysis is based on scanning his novels combined the author's personal understanding and some methods of stoffgeschichte. A discussion on his art methods is carried out, which can help to display his aesthetic forms for the research of the expressive ways of his creative themes .In this thesis , the author depends on the Chinese traditional literary theory and the Western literary theory, which can reflect the writer's attitudes towards what he wants to express. In the author's opinion, themes are central and of greatest value because what can appeal for readers are absolutely the themes of works. Qiangurong proposed that literature was about human being in the middle of 20 century .He thinks that human beings are the focus in literature. How to treat a man is the criterion that is used to comment on writers or works in literary remarks. And can we understand the works .So we can research Sutong's works by laying aside popularity and commerce. From the research, Sutong's wkorks have kept away from ideology. And show humans inner feelings and their real living circumstance. From that aspect much more can be gained by the overall research of his works.
