Willa Cather (1873—1947) is an outstanding woman writer in the history of American literature. O, Pioneers!, The Song of the Lark and My Antonia, known as"prairie trilogy", are her representative works. In these three novels, Cather depicts three independent and charming female characters who display pioneering spirit and are influenced by multiculturalism. In recent years, critics analyze Cather's novels from a wide variety angles, but rarely from the perspective of cultural criticism. This thesis focuses on the cultural origin and cultural orientation of her novels by using the theory of cultural criticism. Through analyzing the three novels, the author of the thesis concludes that traditional European culture, Indian culture and puritan spirit are the origin of her creation and have contributed to the exploration of the profound themes and the formation of the unique styles.
