This thesis adopts the qualitative research which springs up in social scientific studies. This method makes use of the researcher himself as the research tool and endeavors to understand insightfully and interpret the activities. The whole research process intends to first collect the materials under natural conditions and then analyze them with the inductive method to form theories or to describe and represent a situation in an effort to research comprehensively on the educational problems. D, the subject investigated, has been engaged in vocal performance and teaching for years. This thesis reflects two ideas. Firstly, I have studied the teacher's experience of performing as a Black Head in Peking opera. Visits and interviews helped to understand the how this experience has influenced him on his whole career and how Black Head's special way of vocalization has laid a good foundation for his career. Secondly, I have studied how the teacher, after having studied in the art academy, combines Peking Opera's unique vocal approach and the pith of bel canto to cater his singing to the Chinese aesthetic habits. The examples concerned are mainly taken from the teaching.
