Oral Chinese teaching (OCT) is one of the most important skill training courses for learners of Chinese as a foreign language. But in most circumstances, in-class oral Chinese teaching has such problems as insufficient teaching hours, lacking a proper Chinese language environment and monotonous teaching methods, all of which constitute a bottleneck of OCT. Meanwhile, the Internet is increasingly and extensively used in education, and Internet-based oral Chinese teaching has become a hot issue, for it is considered a possible solution to the afore-mentioned problems. This paper is an attempt to study the promising Internet-based oral Chinese teaching. It first analyses the current situation of oral Chinese teaching and uncovers the problems. In order to solve the problems, this paper, based on the theories of instructional design and Internet-based foreign language teaching, examines the principles of web-based oral Chinese course design. The next section of the paper is devoted to the designing of a model website for oral Chinese teaching, Learn Chinese Here. This website, consisting of a main module and an assisting module, is characterized by an integration of knowledge learning and oral skill development. To testify its validity and effectiveness, the last section of the paper is a pilot test of this model website. |
