The history of Chinese language teaching in Japan is glorious. In early modern times Chinese language teaching in Japan was closely connected to modern Sino-Japanese culture relations history. In this period, Chinese language teaching is regarded as a kind of supplement of military aggression so it is different from the language teaching which, in general sense, means imparting the knowledge, skills and the culture. At that time Chinese language teaching has been integrated with military affairs and politics. The compilation of the textbooks should quite reflect Chinese language teaching condition at that time. Therefore author has done profound studies on《時研文究支那新聞の讀み方》, a textbooks used to study Chinese in modern Japan. The articles complied in the book were all from the China newspapers of that time. The intention to study the Chinese language textbooks is to inquire about the compilation situation of the Chinese language textbooks based on the articles of China newspaper of that historically specific period, and to provide the beneficial supplement to complete the research of the Japan's Chinese language teaching history so as to provide beneficial model for the compilation of Course Books of Newspapers and Periodicals in teaching Chinese as a foreign language now.In this paper, the author conducts thorough research from the aspects of the circulation survey of this textbooks, the layout, the selection of contents, the language items selection, with the purpose to reveal the real condition of the Chinese language textbooks based on the China newspaper in modern Japan, to provide the beneficial historical data for the history of world Chinese language teaching. While summarizing the Characteristics and defects in this Chinese language textbook, the author extracts excellences of this Chinese language textbook to contribute to the research and development of teaching Chinese as a foreign language now.In this paper, Historical Reference Confirmation method, Mathematical Statistics method, and other scientific research methods are adopted. With the application of computer technology, the author establishes the corpus with the articles compiled in this textbook and word notes in this textbook as the foundation, and carries on the data classification of related essential elements in this textbook to lay the language materials foundation for further research.The body part of the paper is divided into four chapters :Chapter I is a general survey of《研時究文支那新聞の讀み方》. This chapter can be further divided into two parts: first, the author tries to make a comprehensive introduction of the book, including the publication, the status of the author, a book profiles; secondly, the objective and detailed depiction of the layout and the compilation content is presented.Chapter II studies on the selection of the articles. This chapter can be divided into three parts. In the first part, the themes and the styles of the articles compiled are discussed respectively. In the second part, the styles of the title are discussed from two aspects of the design of the title format and the main headline text size. In the third part, article length, word annotations, as well as illustrations are discussed.Chapter III studies on language items selection. This chapter can be divided into four parts. The first part introduces the statistical methods of the language items. Ihe second part discusses the compiling of phonetic items from the aspects of the phonetically annotated words distribution in each chapter, the recurrence of phonetically annotated words, the initial and final consonant of a Chinese syllable. Ihe third part discusses the compilation situation of the vocabulary items of the new word notes from the aspects of vocabulary category, defining words with synonyms, defining words with example words, defining the words through decomposition and recurrence of words as well as other aspects. Ihe fourth part discusses the grammar items from the following aspects: the choice of grammar, vocabulary discrimination and the explanation of grammar.Chapter IV is about the compiling characteristics and evaluation of《研時究文支那新聞の讀み方》and reference values. This chapter is divided into three parts. The first part summarizes five compiling characteristics: pertinence, scientific, practical, interesting and standard. Ihe second part analyzes of weakness of this textbooks from the aspects of the layout, compilation and so on. Ihe third part tries to explore the values of this textbook from the aspects of the layout, illustrations, the selection of contents, the language items selection and so on so as to contribute to compilation of Course Books of Newspapers and Periodicals in teaching Chinese as a foreign language now.
