Each kind of thinking has its different characters, and has its dissimilar effect on playing lute.The research purpose of this thesis is comprehensively discuss the characters of the four kinds of thinking (abstract, visual, inspiration and motion thinking) in playing lute and their important effect on playing. Our consideration and means is research intersectantly by using for reference the research production of psychology and musicology and adopting the way of integrating theoretical analyse and special lute repertory examples. The first part of the thesis discusses the thinking in the sense of psychology, and classifies it into different kinds according to different criterion; objectively analyzes and judges the forepasted research on musical thinking; introduces our consideration and means on researching the thinking in playing lute.The second part is the central content of thesis. We analyze the characters of abstract, visual, inspiration and motion thinking in playing lute, and comprehensively discuss the effect of these four kinds of thinking in playing lute and expressing personal emotion by integrating special lute repertory examples. The third part synthetically generalizes the different effect of these four kinds of thinking and close contact between each other in playing lute.These four kinds of thinking are relatively independent and respectively play different roles in learning and playing lute. Meanwhile, they are tightly connected and can't be separated from each other. The abstract thinking is a rational kind of thinking, which leads performing action into a scientific, systemic and standard track. The visual thinking is a fresh and lively kind of thinking, which will make for producing the lute repertory for the second time. The inspiration thinking is the most complicated and advanced thinking, which embodies performer's creative nature in performing practice. The motion thinking is the earliest thinking, in which the thinking consists in performing motion. At the same time, these four kinds of thinking are tightly connected and can't be separated from each other in performing.
