Native Suzhou Mao Sheng-shan and Mao Zong-gang are father and son in Qing Dynasty. They are the greatest short story writer and traditional opera critic since Jin Sheng-tan. They collaborated in comment on The Romance of the Three Kingdoms and opera the Story of Lute. To give the particular neatening and studying of the comment on opera the Story of Lute written by Gao Ze-cheng, to investigate the Mao's idea of opera and esthetic and to give the objective comment will supply gap of study of opera in Qing Dynasty. It is also necessary to enrich and consummate the studying of history of ancient Chinese opera and history of theory of Chinese opera.According to the new finding materials, Mao Zong-gang who's another name was Mao Zong-yuan. He is the element school student of county which is now in Suzhou city.The critique of opera the Story of Lute written by Mao embodied its abundance idea of opera. To the opera's essence, Mao put the theory of "it is the structure of opera and different from the poem." The function of aesthetic of opera is to complement the lack. To the fictive literature, Mao's attitude is allegory is not true, true love is necessary. To the main body of the opera, Mao made comments on opera's subject, plot, structure and ending. They especially pay attention to the plot of the opera. They made detailed analysis artistic technique and said the opera's structure must be complete, procedure and primary and secondary.
