This research studied the situation of male prisoners'control belief and control strategies from the perspective of the control character of individual behavior and the subjective feeling of one's control of the environment; and conducted interventions of group counseling and material reading with the hope of strengthening their senses of control. In the light of control, individuals'behaviors can be categorized into primary control and secondary control. The former indicates changing the environment to make it suitable for individuals; while the latter means changing oneself to adapt the environment. And control belief is just the sense of control. The research found out: that the prisoner's sense of control is influenced by the factor of the"periods of imprisonment"and shows interaction effects on the combinations of age and terms of imprisonment; age, terms of imprisonment and periods of imprisonment; age and imputation; and terms of imprisonment and imputation. The research also found that the prisoner's most used control strategies are considered by jailors the best strategies; that the prisoner's sense of control is correlated positively with the number of the strategies they can use when facing the typical situations in jail; that the intervention of group counseling given to the prisoners whose senses of control are low proves to be effective. |
