This paper describes systemically the differences of cognitive categories between the monosyllabic and disyllabic words in modern Chinese Verb and Noun. On the basic of the analytical results we explained the selection of syntactic combination for"verb-object"pattern,then we conclude optimum seeking method on the cognition category.This paper divided into four chapters excluding the preface and the conclusion:The first chapter mainly analyzes the matched pair situation of monosyllabic and disyllabic verb and noun. In order to definition the range of research for the further investigation on their differences in Cognition category.Chapter two analyzes the Cognition difference between monosyllabic and disyllabic verb and noun. We locate the monosyllabic and disyllabic in the cognitive domain. According as the theory of linguistic categorization,we affirm matched pair member's category level,then analyses the cognitive category difference between monosyllabic and disyllabic.Chapter three analyzes the levels of semantic field for verb and noun. We found that monosyllabic belong to basic level category, And the compound word which compose with monosyllabic as morpheme are belong to subordinate category or super ordinate category. The parallel disyllabic verb and the parallel disyllabic noun often belong to super ordinate category while structure of modification verb and noun often belong to the subordinate category.The fifth chapter discusses optimum seeking method of verb-object collocation .Then explain the regulations in cognitive way. The selection in words collocation includes not only syntax and semantic selection but cognitive category selection as well.
