Shen Fu's autobiographical novel " Six Chapters of a Floating Life " has been given an detailed description of a lower levels intellectual's life that more than half. The"Six Chapters of a Floating Life"is drawn up as an example in the academic dissertation. Shen Fu is the representative one replies to the lower intelligentsia in middle term Qing dynasty, by meticulous study to his life , we can grasp the essence of the role that he play in the family and society. By comparing and analyzing the lower intelligentsia, we can know about the social population weather of this stratum which includes their small family life , big family life , social life and career choice. By doing this I try to enearth all the valuable things in lower intelligentsia spirit such as various hobby and interest , the fine desire and pursuit, outstanding ability and cleverness ,poetic and artistic life interest.The academic dissertation can be departed to three chapters except for preface and concluding remark. The first chapter is"Six Chapters of a Floating Life"and the family life of lower intelligentsia in middle term Qing dynasty. This chapter includes culture communication between wife and husband, clothing, eating, living, travelling ,all the basic necessities of life in their small family life.The big family life and the impact of which over lower levels intellectual which includes the economy aiding and the thought fetters. The second chapter is"Six Chapters of a Floating Life"and the social life of lower intelligentsia in middle term Qing dynasty. This includes their examination career and the choice of their occupation career. All these affect their social position ,economic situation and psychology. They are the failure of examination and have no chance to enter the government .They have to choose other ways to support their life such as being tutor , being adjutant, being doctor, engaging in business deals and so on. The third chapter is"Six Chapters of a Floating Life"and the artical life of lower intelligentsia in middle term Qing dynasty. This chapter involves the art of ikebana and bonsai, landscape art and the art of article, poem, and painting. All these arts have relationship with lower intelligentsia.The main body of this academic dissertation is written by the way of reflecting society from the novel, starting from novel to society then back to novel. There are not only macroscopic background characteristic of times but also microcosmic personal activity. And in the process of writing this academic dissertation I try my best to combine the literature with history.
