Xiaoshuolin is an important novel magazine with a big influence in the Late Qing Dynasty period of China. It makes a heavy influence to China's modern trans-novel and novel theory. The thesis studies Xiaoshuolin by four aspects, the general situation, the stories, the operation and management, the theories and so on.At first, the thesis finds out the editors'guiding of market-orient, seeking of relaxing and aesthetics,and inclination of society and politic, by analyzing the pictures, Wenyuan and Conglu on the magazine.And the thesis studies the editors'consciousness of arranging trans-novels and original novels, from the dynamically balancing relationship of translation and writing; studies what the editors were focusing on, from the choosing of different kinds of novels'subjects. All of these opinions are inferred by analyzing the every novel.And the thesis studies the editors'inherit and innovation of the times, the cultural ecology what they lived with, by analyzing the aim of the publication of Xiaoshuolin, and the relationship with other magazines.At last, the thesis discusses the self-examination and innovation of novel theory, discovers the novel theories and the special seeking of novel theory, and investigates the consciousness of its seeking, by studying its criticism of traditional and published novels on the magazine.
