On The " New Feeling "

Susan Sontag is American contemporary famous thinker and culture critic and fiction writer,whose esthetics theory is not paid much attention to in China .The existing dissertations have studied her esthetics thoughts from isolated side and cannot completely reflect her esthetics theory system.This article points out"new sensibility"is the core of her esthetics thoughts and is the guide in all theories.So we may take the"new sensibility"theory as a clue to reconstruct the esthetics thoughts systerm of Sontag and return to its overall original appearance.The thesis is divided into five parts.Introduction:Briefly introduce Susan Sontag′s biograhpy experience and works,and carry on the certain division to her fundamental research according to the time.At the same time, it introduced origin,development ,consummation and revision of the theory of"new sensibility",point out the current research situation and the significance of the researches.PartⅠ: Analyze the connotation of"new sensibility".This part limits the concept of the theory, explains the connotation and shows its characteristics,then summrises three great creative sensibilities of"new sensibility".Moreover,it elaborates detailly on"camp"which is the ideal form in three new sensibilities.PartⅡ:Inquire into the realization strategy of"new sensibility". In Sontag′s eyes,traditional interpretation has its disadvantages and must be given up.She takes a stand against simplificative interpretation.PartⅢ:Discuss Sontag how to advocate and practise"new sensibility".She personally sets an example to support"new sensibility"and applies it to her reseach fields,such as Esthetics studies, photography criticism and fiction creation. Specifically, she poses to establish a pornographic subject and praises prose writing style highly.PartⅣ: Date from the social background and theory origin of"new sensibility". The fourth part investigates comprehensively the social background at that time,which contains the politics, the economy and the culture background. Furthermore,this part points out that the theory absorbs several kinds of esthetics including Newcriticism, the Frankfurt school , the Existentialism and the Feminism. The theory has close relationship with the New York intellectual community′values.PartⅤ: The evaluation of"new sensibility".The last part tell us the significance and the insufficiency.Conclusion:A summary to the whole thesis.
