"Zai+location" is one of the most overworked, researched and disputedstructures, also it is one of the most concerned questions by linguists.Since the article written by Zhu Dexi, it has drawn lots of attention andhas become an important research project. The research on it was developping,and integrated with the newest theories continuously. In order to offeringdetailed research materials to the researches who are interested in thisstructure, this article will summarize the general situation and productionabout this structure in the round.First of all, in part of speech, linguists commonly considered that"zai" equaled to verb, preposition and adverb, but they haven't reachedassent on how to compartmentalize verb and preposition yet.Secondly, in sentential form, the linguists such as Zhu Dexi, ShiGuangan, Wang Huan, Shao Jingmin all researched this question by transformanalysis. Especially Fan Jiyan pointed out that the sentence whichcontained "Zai+location" could be classified into three types:(1)PP+NP+VP; (2)NP+PP+VP; (3)NP+VP+PP. Then hi Linding added the forth type.But the linguists such as Yu Yongmei, Qi Huyang, Cui Xiliang consideredthat there were just two types in this sentential form.Thirdly, in syntax and semantics, linguists concentrated theirattention on (2)NP+PP+VP; (3)NP+VP+PP, and put them together to draw acomparison.Moreover, Qi Huyang classitied the sentence contained "Zai+location"into static structure and dynamic structure. Yu Yongmei also analyzed thesemantic feature of Zai location to research it.Fourthly, in rule restricting the word order, there were some chiefviewpoint: (1) Some early linguists such as LüShuxiang, Wang Huan,JamesH-Ytai considered semantics as the important factor that restrictedthe word order. (2)Yu Yongmei thought that the principle is PTS. (3)ZhangChengand Qi Huyang considered that rhythm is the most important element. (4)Therewas another view that the location of "Zai+location" had relations with the location of object.Finally, in cognition, the Linguists such as Shen Jiaxuan and CuiXiliang all made good tries and gained very plentiful achievement. Shen7iaxuan pointed out the theory of Gestalt, he also pointed out that manycognitive principles effected the location of "zai+location".The analysis from Cui xiliang was the most detailed analysis onstructure of "Zai", in cognition. He spended lots of discussion on thisstructure in his "language understanding and cognition"The research on "zai+location" will continue, the introduction inthis article is just a part of typical research in the past. There is stilllots of work that needs us go on researching.
