Yang Zhou is one of historic and cultural city of our country. It has a long history of more than two thousand years so far from its raise. The most flourishing period of Yang Zhou is Tang Dynasty. The construction of the Grand Canal established the solid foun-dation to the development of Yang Zhou. After the rebellion of An Lushan, the economic center moved to the south. This situation offered a opportunity to Yang Zhou's rapid de-velopment. Along with the economic development and commercial prosperity, Yang Zhou become one of the most prosperous cities at that time .Yang Zhou is the first, and the Yi Zhou of Sichuan is just behind.Under the big background of the time, Yang Zhou has the similarity to other big cities in Tang Dynasty. It has openness, multivariate ness and compatibility. But since the difference of geography environment and the discrepancy of humanity condition, Yang Zhou also has its own character. The people of Yang Zhou generally think highly of the business and make light of farming. They chase the wealth; have the typical tendency of consumerism. The most typical image of Yang Zhou in Tang Dynasty is the giddy life.The title of this paper is "The impression of Yang Zhou in Tang novels ".The scope of research is Tang novel. Via arrangement and choice, I have selected 162 novels among them and taken to classifies. In research and writing, I assist the novels with historical data and poems, and attempt to realize the image of Yang Zhou since the angle of Tang novels, especially the difference between Yang Zhou and other cities.This thesis is mainly divided into four Chapters:The introduction is delivered the motivation and technique of the author's research, and the principle of selection.Chapter one deals with the historical and culture background of Yang Zhou. Analyze the political and the economic reason of Yang Zhou's prosperity, and interpret the Grand Canal in detail which affects Yang Zhou very deeply.Chapter two investigates the commerce and the commercial culture of Yang Zhou. This chapter mainly divides into two parts. After having differentiated the reflection of the industry and commerce in the novels, the author has also analyzed the business mer-chant's living style and the commercial culture of Yang Zhou. The author points out that the commercial cultural of Yang Zhou has already preliminary maturation. The custom of take benefit and morality both is formed preliminarily. In the idea of scholar, a certain relation between the wealth and the name of Yang Zhou has been formed.Chapter three analyzes the giddy life of pleasure which is the most typical image of Yang Zhou. The personality and the psychology of the scholars, and the pursuit for free character have been made some explanations. The author also analyses the viewpoint of that the people of Yang Zhou is flippant and giddy from the aspects of swordsman,folk custom and holiday customs and points out that this viewpoint can explores positive and negative both. At the same time, the author also inclines for tendency to the consumerism in this chapter, and the character of metropolis culture of Yang Zhou.Chapter four emphasizes the ideology field and analyses the religious belief of Yang Zhou. The deep influence of Buddhism and Taoism to the thoughts of Yang Zhou people also has been analysis briefly. The stress point of this chapter has been put in the aspect of nongovernmental faith (The sense of nongovernmental faith in this paper is narrow).The depth and the scope of nongovernmental faith and the pragmatism which take root in the ideology depths of Yang Zhou people has made preliminary analysis.
