The thesis is dedicated to researching the First National Art Exhibition held by the Education Administration of Republic of China in 1929, and on this basis of this period, discussing the operation mechanism of national art exhibition. According to the existing literature data, the author tries to remodeling its whole process of topic building, preparation, implementation and the aftermath of the exhibition, and also reproduces the scenario of the First National Art Exhibition in the history of art exhibition by a professional perspective of curator and administrator and a way of art management.Based on the historical analysis from topic deciding to the aftermath of exhibitions, the author examines the national art exhibition mechanism was established after the First Exhibition, regards this Exhibition and the improving exhibition mechanism as an antinomy and unified integer, and respectively establishes the different significance and value of the First National Art Exhibition held by the Education Administration, the national art exhibition mechanism during the Republic years and national exhibition itself. By a perspective of the research exhibition, the national art exhibition—the system of academic value has been set up more comprehensively and objectively.As for the methodology, the article was not restricted to simple research of single cases, but based on collecting and distinguishing archives and documents. The author dedicate to apply the methodology of the type research, problematical research and the art management, philology, sociology in order to disclose the historical significance and realistic value of national art exhibition mode, and this exhibition's dual effect and significance on science and politics were triggered by multiple forces behind this mechanism.
