Small And Medium-sized Cities, A Survey Of The Public Art Building And Thinking

Public art is an important component of city landscape. A successful public art work well demonstrates the culture and spirit of a city. It not only enriches the color a city but also contributes to a more beautiful environment.When writing this paper, the author took the methods of literature review, social interviews, questionnaires and field investigations. By reviewing literatures, the author makes system analysis of the history and status quo of public art in China and abroad and elaborates the problems in the process of development. Taking the example of public art in Taizhou, Zhejiang province, the author interviewed the audience and designers of public art in Taizhou to know about their understanding of the current public art in Taizhou and analyzed carefully the current state of public art of the city from the perspectives of relationship between public art and nature, value of public art and public art management. In general, due to a short history, Taizhou still lags behind other large cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Hangzhou in terms of public art development.While examining the public art works of Taizhou, the article makes detailed case studies on the public art development of the city, points out the existing problems and raises a number of suggestions. It also offers insights on the future development of public art in Taizhou, including the demonstration form of public art, design, development principles and construction mechanism.Taizhou is a small emerging city with a profound culture. The problem that its public art focuses too much on urban sculpture should be solved by learning the successful experience of other cities in developing public art and building its unique characteristics.
