When we have a study on the mid-Yuan's field of calligraphy, we certainly have to value highly the Kuizhangge of the Wenzong's dynasty. Because it was an important fragment that collected calligraphy and painting. Especially the Han officer contacted and practice mutually in the Kuizhangge. They pushed forward the fashion of calligraphy in the practice after Zhao Mengfu. Yu Ji'calligraphy with purity, strength, elegance and legitimacy as the characteristics, who was the book bachelor's degree and had an important position, occupied the important representative among the calligraphers in the Kuizhangge in the middle of Yuan Dynasty. Now some people don't appreciate this, but in the middle of Yuan Dynasty he is an important representative's person, then this is the historical reality.This article is completely arranged the Yu Ji's calligraphic theory and calligraphy practice. On this base, this article discusses the Yu Ji's status in the calligraphic field in the middle of Yuan Dynasty. This paper is divided into three parts.Chapter One focuses on Yu Ji's calligraphic theory, which was greatly influenced by the development of Confucian theory in Yuan Dynasty. His theory of learning from ancient ideas and of treating Hexastichs as the standard were in accordance with the returning trend of the thought of Weijin's ancient method in early Yuan Dynasty. And his calligraphic thought was an important complement to the calligraphic thought of Yuan Dynasty. Chapter Two discusses the origin of Yu Ji's calligraphic style and then studies his practice in Xing calligraphy, Kai calligraphy and Li calligraphy. Finally his outstanding position in the middle of Yuan Dynasty is pointed out based on summarizing his calligraphic activities in Kuizhangge. Chapter Three analyzes the reasons why Yu Ji's calligraphic style formed like that from these aspects such as his aesthetic vision resulting from the Confucian theory of the times, and the objective factor of himself. And thus Yu Ji's status in the calligraphic field is further confirmed at last.In a word, Yu Ji'calligraphy with purity, strength, elegance and legitimacy as the characteristics emerged in the mid-Yuan's field of calligraphy, which made him become an important representative among the calligraphers in the Kuizhangge in the middle of YuanDynasty.
