Tang Calligraphy Comprehensive Theory

Emperor Taizong in Tang dynasty was not only an outstanding politician , militarist, but also a calligraphist, poet. He had great capability in culture and art. After getting the imperial power, he began to execute the policy of "lay down arms and build culture", and bent himself to culture and art. Emperor Taizong in Tang dynasty emphasized art of calligraphy, auspicated imperial examinations to choose official. He participated in researching and inditement of calligraphy personally and got great accomplishment in this field . As a militarist, Emperor Taizong in Tang dynasty detected a link between the calligraphy and strategics , he pointedout the key of their internal relations------Artistic conception. Heemphasized that a good calligraphist must think much of "Artistic conception", He created his calligraphic theory that " hands should follow artistic conception".He educed "not learn postuer extremely ,but try to learn immanent power,when gained immanent power,the postuer come out themselves." He emphasized that calligraphy's works should attain the "beauty of balance". This article analyses his magnumopus-----《inscription for hot well》 on aspects of vigor style ofwriting , frame, and art of composition. Emperor Taizong in Tang dynasty aroused the fashion of adoring Wang Xi zhi's calligraphy , put Wang Xi zhi to the status as a man of God on calligraphy. He did huge contribution to make calligraphies engraved on stele and calligraphy's copybook go around.
