There are lots of factors influencing the development of Chinese ancient literature,in which the emperors relying on political rights to influence literature is an important one.Through the perspective of the social-cultural criticism covering many aspects such as history,politics,culture,society and psychology,the article discusses how the Emperor in early Tang(618-907)relies on his political rights to intervene the cultural ideology plus interests of poetic groups,and even the mainstream literary fashion of the whole early Tang period.The poetic research takes Emperor Taizong(Li Shi-min,598-649)as the center based on social,cultural and literary dimensions to demonstrate its distinguishing feature of the imperial poetics study--Emperors' absolute power on poetic discourses.By considering multiple factors as the reasons and connecting the poetry with the identity of emperors,it also reveals impressive influences of the political power on poetics itself from the literary interaction between Taizong himself and the literati-community during the period of Zhenguan Reign(627-649).It comprises of three chapters plus introduction and conclusion:The First Chapter: History background of imperial poetics in pre-Tang.Itmainly outlines the important discourses on imperial poetics in pre-Tang including two aspects,i.e.Poem Expressing Ideal and Confucian poetic teaching,respectively,then discusses the cultural milieu and characteristics of the Emperor's poetic ideas formed.The Emperor identity of Taizong will be analyzed by two aspects:FENGSHAN and imperial image portraying.The background of emperial politics lays a solid foundation for the further discussion of relationships between emperor's power and poetics.The Second Chapter: Poetry-style rheology in Pre-tang and Emper or Taizong's poetic creation.Taking the introduction of poetry-style rheology in Pre-tang as the background to analyze emperors' poetic creation under the protection of political rights,this chapter focuses on the text of selected poems and proses from Taizong Emperor's corpus to illustrate the hidden concept of Confucian poetic teaching and uncover the intention of Taizong to realize the implications of poetic-political functions with great efforts so as to show his processive and revolutionary role in the turning progress of the poetic style in early Tang.The Third Chapter: Poetic interaction between Emperor Taizong and his courtier literati-community.At beginning it introduces the specific preventative cases to show how the monarchical power intervenes poetry itself during reign of Zhenguan Years,then moves to summarize the essence of intervention on poetic productionsby the monarchical power and analyze the co-existing phenomena between poetry and autocratic monarchy based on the poetic writing productivities between Taizong himself and his literati-community during reign of Zhenguan.
