The "Lun Yu School", which is composed of those people who know well both the oriental and the occidental culture and make their own choices and speculations on the problems pertinent to these two cultures, share the same interest on their magazine Lun Yu, which was issued from the 1930s in the history of modern Chinese literature. From the perspective of modernistic theories, this thesis makes an observation on the persistence of the individual freedom, the discovery of modernity from tradition, the acceptance and rejection of western culture, the construction of life philosophy respectively. It is found that those people of the "Lun Yu School" have continued the spirit of individual freedom started from the May Fourth Movement, and also deconstructed the social connotation of such individual freedom. Furthermore, they have broken the modernistic concept of the linear process of time and searched the resources from tradition. However, their exploration of the traditional cultural resources is based on the system of modern knowledge, and their acceptance and rejection on western culture are usually determined by their own choices, which always melt themselves with the traditional Chinese culture. In addition, their philosophy of life has corresponded to some modernistic theories to some extent, while it still remained their reflections on the modern social life. On a whole, within the context of 1930s, the speculation and criticism on modernistic problems have been concerned about by the people of "Lun Yu School" themselves, however, their speculation and criticism still haven't shaken off the constraint of theoretical frame of modernity. Among them, there still existed some contradictions. All of these have showed the various explorations from different individuals of "Lun Yu School".
