The Anxiety And Struggle Of The Life--The Analysis Of Yuhan's Writings' Modernity

The modernity embodied in Yuhua's writings was demonstrated in the following two respects: one is "the Modern Enlightenment " based on the traditional comment; the other is the "Modernism" on the basis of the modern critiques.Modernity is the rational spirit, which is "the general description that the scholars and critics summarized according to the historical and cultural phenomena on the theory levels." For the present, expounding and analyzing literature works in terms of the modernity is the focus subject in the literature criticism field in recent years.This thesis tries to illuminate Yuhua's works in the light of the modernity, which casts a new light on his works and distinguishes this research from other previous studies conducted in a single subject individually and at a peculiar stage with the help of the combination of his writings and the modernity of literature on the whole.The modernity of literature is the sort of criticism, which embodies the critiques both in the tradition and the modern civilization. Literature is the main way for the humane intellectuals to concern about our society, the most important task of them is to criticize the unjustness of the society. Nowadays, there are also a lots traditional factors hindering the development of the society. Thus, the modern Enlightenment tradition from May 4th Movement is not ended, on the contrary, it continues to develop. Furthermore, with the development of the society, some problems also arise from the society, which have been revealed more and more by modernism literature in some western countries. Some kinds of"diseases of modern civilization" are exposed in the works of different times, even though the modernism literature history in China is not long, and this also shows the opposite modernity tendency. In fact, it is not really anti-civilization, but wants to correct the error and reduce the negative role of the civilization by commenting on the society. For this reason, literature needs to fulfill the dual obligations to develop modernization. On one hand it criticizes tradition for modern civilization; on the other hand it criticizes modern civilization on the basis of self-criticism so as to keep the modern civilization on its rational track.It is of great significance for Yuhua to subvert the traditional values in his works and criticize the national character in terms of the modern Enlightenment, he also develops and deepens the tradition of the modern Enlightenment from May 4th Movement, keeps the modern Enlightenment effective even today. Meanwhile, the introspection and anxiousness of the civilized society in his works are also employed and made the modernism tradition continue. By introspecting civilization, humane reason can be strengthened and perfected. Yuhua reflects and comments profoundly and dually on the theme of the modernity — criticizing tradition is to call civilization and reason; introspecting civilization is to perfect the modernity, all of which are of great value and weigh heavily in his works.The main purpose of this study is an attempt to illuminate the modernity in the writings of Yuhua with the illustration and analysis his works, evaluate and orient his literary status in history, and elaborate the practical significance of the modernity in current social life.
