Abstract/Summary:
In orient of ancient times, once there was a "culuture of Chinese character" circle. Chinese culture had long and deep effects upon Japanese culture for more than a thousand year. Especially during the Edo period, with large amount of Ming and Qing Dynasty novels including classical Chinese novel and colloquial novels. The greatest result of this influence is the creation of a new-style novel mode, that is, reading book and then gave rise to the progress and prosperity of Japanese literature.With appearance of PuDaoZiZhuan adapted from Tang's classical short novel YouXianKu at the end of eighth century in Japanese literature, a lot of adapted novels came one after another throughout Japanese history. Then it reached the peak during the Edo period.There were lots of masterpieces such as ASAIAROUI's JiaBeiZi adapted from JianDengYeHua which was the beginning of adaptation, TUGATEISHOU's YingCaiZi adapted from SanYan which came to a new stage of adaptation, and UEDAAKINARI's YuYueWuYu which was appeared in the peak and had laid a basis for the reading book afterwards.There are six chapters except the two chapters, namely Introduction and Conclusion. Chapter One emphasizes on the historical background of the introduction and spread of Chinese classical works and Ming's novels to Japan including relationships between Japanese adapted novel and JianDengXinHua and SanYan. Chapter Two introduces the profile of UEDAAKINARI and his work YuYeWuYu and the connections between the former mentioned two works and YuYeWuYu. Chapter Three and Four analyzes how YuYeWuYu adapted from JianDengXinHua and SanYan by comparison. Chapter Five discusses the features of UEDAAKINARI's novels and its contribution to Japanese literal field Chapter Six give a brief introduction of the collections such as GuaiTanQiShu, QiYiGuaiTanJi, JiaBeiZi, YingCaoZhi, FanYeHua etc. which were adapted from JianDengXinHua and SanYan respectively.The thesis tries to prove the facts reading books mostly adapted from Ming's novel on the basis of the researches done by both Chinese and Japanese scholars through thorough investigation, analysis and arguments of reading books during the Edo period It also provides strong evidence that Chinese novels had heavy influence on Japanese novels in the Edo period ,and thus this attempt makes sense in both comparative literature and science of comparative culture.
