Byron's Image: From Europe To China

During the end of Qing Dynasty to 5 4 Literary Revolutions in 1900-1917, there was the upsurge of the English great poet Byron's poems'translations and introductions in China."The Isles of Greece"which is a part of Byron's famous poetic"Don Juan", was repeatedly translated. There were Liang Qichao, Ma Junwu, Su Manshu and Hu Shi's translation editions. In addition, Two important articles also appeared in that time. They were Wang Guowei's"English Great Poet Byron's biography"and Lu Xun's"Mo Luo shi li shuo". The thesis treats China's translating and introductions of Byron from the end of Qing Dynasty to 5 4 Literary Revolutions as the research object, and inspects the Byron image in Europe as well as in the end of Qing Dynasty in the Chinese cultural context. The thesis will throw light on the differences and specifically analyzes the image's change and the reason. There will be four chapters:The first chapter is the survey of study. The second chapter briefly introduces Byron's biography and his creation and briefly outlines the literature's history of Byron as well as Byron type's heroes. The third chapter have four parts, and emphatically analyzes the Byron image in Europe. From three aspects including the idealism, the individualist and the outstanding actionist we could grasp Byron's vivid image in Europe. The fourth chapter have three parts. Firstly outline Byron's (mainly concentrated in end of Qing Dynasty in 1900-1917) spreading situation. Secondly emphatically analyzes the Byron image in the end of Qing Dynasty. By studying Liang Qichao, Ma Junwu and Su Manshu's translations and introductions, even the Wang Guowei's biography and Lu Xun's article , the thesis will get the features of the Byron image under the end of the Qing Dynasty's cultural context. The aspects are the legendary hero and the individualist. And the individualist consists of the sentimental individualist and the modern lonely revolted individualist's representative. And so you will see the differences between Byron's image in Europe and Byron's image in China. The last part is the conclusion.
