Weaving Words

Science and art, like a coin's two sides, can not be separated. They have common base, which is the human race's creativity, and common goal, which is the universality of truth. The essential nature of science and art is to provide a new way for the cognition of the unknown world. Imagination is the first step for the human beings to know the world, which could be found everywhere in the development history of the civilization of mankind.Art design is a combination of function, aesthetics and spirit, which is related closely to the daily life. Nowadays, with the multi-direction development of the art background, the thinking way of design is integrating with that of science, which is also a process of unifying the logical thinking and the imagery thinking. The distinction between different disciplines of design becomes smaller and smaller. In order to really "master" the art design, different design disciplines need to learn from each other about the relevant knowledge and experience on theories, methods and skills.Through a way of borrowing from and transforming between different design disciplines, this paper selects the layout design and the weaving structure as the main object of its discussion, and proposes a new idea based on the linear structure of the two design disciplines, trying to find out a new expression way of layout design art.Based on the structure constituted of transverse lines and lengthwise lines, this paper intends to explore a new expression way of layout in the graphic design field. Through contrast of the common point between the grid pattern in the book design and the weaving pattern in the fabric design—the structure of transverse lines and lengthwise lines, this paper tries to analyze the visual presenting rule of the transverse and lengthwise lines structure in the two-dimensional world, and, from the aspects of order, rhythm and structure, to demonstrate the sameness and difference between the line structure of the book design and that of the fabric design.
