Chinese Grammar-based Study

This article outlines several principal basic unit theories of Chinese grammar since the end of the 19th century, such as " sentence unit " , " phrase unit " , "sinigram(character) unit " , " clause unit " and " two units " etc. The author gives a detailed analysis and evaluation of their historical development , main content , function in Chinese study . This article introduces the theory of " sinigram(character) unit " that has appeared in the last few years especially and states its main views. " Sinigram(character) unit" theory finds existing deficiency of other theories and want to break the "Europe eyes " with the unit that Chinese is peculiar —The character is the basic structure unit of Chinese, proceed from character to establish the system of grammar of Chinese, it is really a new thinking of studying Chinese. But the theory of " sinigram(character) unit" has a defect: Some important concepts , terms are defined indeterminatly ; some statements lack commonability ; in the Chinese information processing respect, we can not find its advantage . So, this text holds the attitude of keeping to " sinigram(character) unit".In addition, this text discusses relevantly several disputable questions to " sinigram(character) unit ", compares character to morpheme and word ,etc. and discusses their function in Chinese study at the same time ; this text reviews the function in the traditional language study of character and describes Chinese characters as the identity of " second language "; In the field of literature, the character is a foundation of some characteristic literature of China, the relation between it and language can also be regarded as the object of reference with phased literature; No matter dynamic research or static research of the dialect study, have dense integral relations with the character; The phenomenon of " character " proves even more the character is high-profile in Chinese speakers .In foreign Chinese teaching and Chinese information processing , this text accords to the real research situation and thinks , " character" is more practical and more important unit.In sum, the character can really bring certain facility on the method to us , we should fully pay attention to the function of the character , combine the existing research results taking word as basic unit, the method to adopt " proceeding from character , implement to the word " studies Chinese. Introspecting constantly and advancing constantly, this is not merely a demand of theoretical research of Chinese, but the demand that information-intensive society and era develop in step too.The characteristic of this text is two aspects: First , appraised various kinds of basic unit theories fairly more objectivly. On author's finding, although there are more research materials about the basic unit theories of Chinese, they all tend to lean to oneside, this text makes every effort to stand in the objective position going to appraise every basic unit theory. Second , this text gives consideration to the application study of the theories , proceed with two respects of foreign Chinese teaching and Chinese information processing, have probed into the relation between character and word.
