| After the Cultural Revolution of a decade, a new era of the modern Chinese literature history, the transitional period we call it, came into being, when great changes have taken place to the political, economic and cultural patterns of soc ety and people embraced, motivated and influenced by numerous and complicated ideology, conceptions and way of thinking. Sensitive to suc(?) great social transformation, writers created a wide range of sharp intellectual profiles. The diversity of such characterization reflects the complicated temporal narrative setting and mirrors subjective and objective stress and significant mental processes of the creators.The ever-changing images of the intellectuals during the transitional period manifested not only changes in social values, conflicts between tradition and rrodernity, and psychological perplexities, but also the alternations of their personalities and characteristics. Some new path-dependent changes of the intellectual descriptions in each stage influences the trends of next stage, explores new space for creative writing of intellectual roles and ultimately leads to the independence of new Chinese modern literature, highlighting in literature and aesthetics perspectives.There are four sections of this thesis:Part one analyses the personalities and characteristics of the intellectuals stage by stage based on the texts and concludes to the most obvious symbols of different stages: existential anxiety, discontinuities and fragmentation in the middle of the transitional period, and differentiation and enrichment in latesr accelerated stage.Part two stuc ies the narrative setting related to the emergence of such images in novels of the transitional period, temporal backgrounds on politics, literature, ethics, linguistics and the growing reengineering and restructure in the knowledge field.Part three probes the emotional or psychological setting of creating such profiles and the assessment is that emotional or psychological aspects of creative writing influence the characterization of the texts.Part four discusses the literary and aesthetical meaningness from the perspective of literature history and evaluates the space for creative writing of intellectual profiles after the transitional period. |
