ZhangFu was a general of Ming dynasty, but his destiny was linked closely with Annam in the distance. In 1406, China and Vietnam fought each other, Yongle resorted to force to Annam. Then ZhangFu was commanded for this war and conquered Annam. Therefore Annam was incorporated into the Ming dynasty, but this provoked the strong resistance of the Annamese people, the Ming had to order ZhangFu to Annam subjugate, garrison for three times. ZhangFu had governed Annam for 10 years, conquest, subjugation, garrison were his three aspects in Annamese activity and were this period a main contents of Sino-Viet relation.Yongle dynasty with Annam's war gave honor of ZhangFu, was also his peak of the military career. With his extraordinary military talent , ZhangFu made this war become the most successful one of the Chinese ancient times not only in conquer Annam but also in the war outward. ZhangFu enriched the Chinese ancient military history with the classic campaigns and enriched the Chinese ancient military ideological system with the military stratagem and tactics. He made an importantly contribution to Annamese development and mutual cultural exchanges.Though some shortcoming, ZhangFu could be regarded as an excellent commander and a famous general.
