On the basis of the thorough investigation of the true meaning of XU Wei'sproposition——"taking the present articles as Nan Qu," the author makes ameticulous comparison and analysis between SHAO Can's "Xiang Nang-ji" and the eight-part essay and finds that, just as XU Wei said, in the creation of "Xiang Nang-ji", SHAO Can had transformed the old legendary systems in many ways by means of the eight-part essay and created a kind of new legendary style.In Chapter one, after investigating the true meaning of XU Wei's proposition— —"taking the present articles as Nan Qu" which, the author thinks, means "none are not the preceding performance language". "The preceding performance" is the first test of the imperial civil service examinations of Ming and Qing dynasties in which the eight-part essay is tested," the preceding performance language" is the language of the eight-part essay which mainly relies on the language of "the Four Books and Five Classics" and ZHU Xi's notes and commentary.In Chapter two to Chapter six, the author probes into the relationship between "Xiang Nang-ji" and the eight-part essay in detail from the five aspects of the stylistic function, the content of arguing, the way of arguing, the method of arguing and the way of composing.In the stylistic function, SHAO Can took "Shi Yi" in the eight-part essay as his writing purpose and made "Xiang Nang-ji" depart from the narrative and lyric function of drama in a degree and changed it into argument and discussion.In the content of arguing, under the influence of the consciousness that the eight-part essay should be in accordance with the Four Books and the Five Classics and ZHU Xi's notes, SHAO Can quoted a lot from the classics, history and the notes of ZHU Xi to the drama.In the way of arguing, SHAO Can borrowed the impersonating tone of eight-part essay into "Xiang Nang-ji"; he acted as the spokesman of the sages and paragons while speaking in the place of the characters in the drama.In the method of arguing, under the influence of the Lei Shu editorial way and...
