| The landscape paintings, as a word regulated by paintings' dividing ways, has been too obscure. The contents it represents are almost from nature scenery, however, it couldn't be entitled as the western "scenery paintings" which shares a similar foundation. Chinese painters seem like to know the spirit but they couldn't differentiate those two, so that when westerners translate landscape paintings as "Chinese Traditional Landscape", there's not much we can do. If we ought to understand Chinese paintings due to such translations, then it'll be permanently engraved a title of "tradition". Are landscape paintings really limited in the history memory ever since its very beginning? This paper tries to revert the true original situation of landscape paintings through some trustworthy images which would give us a chance to study the motivation and practical methods of landscape paintings.On the other hand, when subject of landscape paintings were raised in contemporary time, people used to have two presumptions of traditions—"painters paintings" from Bei Song dynasty and "literati paintings" in Yuan dynasty, which were both well connected with paintings from Wu Tai. Ironically, few vital images and paintings from later period are left. Therefore, the author focused on materials from this period for the purpose of conclusion of logic relations and historical truth of that time. This makes our understanding of process of landscape clearer.After research, the author concludes as below: The difference between landscape paintings and scenery paintings is mainly about the previous one's special request of space, namely, the desire of space is before drawing of subjects.
