| The Values Clarification school is an influential moral education theories of America in 1960s and it gradually decline in the end of 1970s.Though it has declined,the moral education ideas and methods that the school advocate still have enlightenments for the moral education of our country. Like focusing on the student's moral judgment and the ability to choose still has meanings to our country which is undergoing social transformation and confronting moral dilemmas.The paper has five chapters and can be divided into three parts. The first part is the first chapter. It mainly gives the comments about the value clarification theory moral relativism and process from domestic and foreign scholars and the inherit about the unity cordiality of knowledge feeling,awareness,behavior that the theory holds. Based on this,they put forward that moral content and core-value education should be highly paid attention to.The paper will adopt the way of Materialist dialectics to re-examine American's value clarification theory and also to get the modern value of this common moral education theory in a historical and modern perspective.The second part includes the second, third, and fourth chapter, and is the main part of the paper. The second chapter examined Values Clarification theory in the process of modernity change history of American society and holds that the Value clarification theory origin has some connection with the theory of Dewey's empiricism, Sartre's existentialism, Rogers humanism psychology and moral cognition development theory. Meanwhile,it is the result of the development of multi-media technology, the changes of family life, the breakout of the worldwide war and the failure of traditional character education of the early 20th century. The third chapter mainly reveals the content of Values Clarification.Since the value clarification theory considers value is the product of experience and is also the result of the evaluation process, development of value is lifelong process. Because of it, the main issue that moral education had to deal with is value clarification questions. The essence of value lies in characteristics of the mandatory, educators pedagogue autonomy, the process of values clarification and limitation of values clarification; There are four elements of values clarification: Taking life as center, accepting reality; encouraging further reflection, cultivating individual ability. Clarification reaction strategy, value list and unexpected consequence strategy are the three methods of Values Clarification theory, among it,the first for individual,the second for groups. The fourth chapter summarizes and evaluate the development and fading of moral education and the theory integrated with New character education. This will helps us understand and evaluate it more profoundly.The third part is the fifth chapter. Through a perspective of history and modernity, we can get the rationality of Values Clarification. Including respecting the subjectivity of students and focusing on the unity cordiality of knowledge,feeling,awareness,behavior etc; Also analyzed its limitations as ignore educators teaching function, moral education, causing value confusion. Finally, the article discusses moral education enlightenments that Values Clarification has for our schools. To summarize, we should inherit this moral education theory critically. |
