Gua-zhi-er, shan-ge are two collections of the folk songs of Ming dynasty, recorded and compiled by Feng Meng-long. Like the ancient folk songs, the folk songs of Ming dynasty have much value in understanding literature. It has exert a tremendous influence on the literature and society of Ming dynasty. The present thesis aims to evaluate its historical status and influence and attempts to give them a fair, unbiased appraisal based on the analysis and presentation of previous experts.The whole thesis consists of Introduction, Main Body, Conclusion and Reference. In the Introduction a brief account of the significance of the selected topic motivation and objective of the research as well as research method is given.Chapter One aims to probe the works of love and analyse why there are so much works of love in the gua-zhi-er and shan-ge.Chapter Two focuses on the artistic value of gua-zhi-er and shan-ge. An in-depth study of the artistic features, the rhetorical devias and language feature are presented in the hope of giving a thorough and deep understanding of its artistic characteristics.Conclusion summariges the studies around the topic. To conclude the author's personal opinions and reflections are given as well.
