Rome began to extend Urbanization Campaign since the mid 2nd century BC. In the Roman Empire , city system had been made further improvements, which was reflected on the constant development and booming of all provincial cities. During the period, as particular one of all the provinces, Gaul benefited from Urbanization Campaign greatly. The development of its cities and the progress of its urbanization had quite a few characteristics, which present it as the model of Urbanization Campaign of Roman Empire. The Urbanization of Gaul not only took effect on the development of its economy and politics, but also propelled the prosperous of the economy of Roman Empire forward, which had profound influences on the development of Gallic region and the west of Roman Empire.This dissertation is divided into 3 chapters.The first chapter mainly discusses the origin of the cities of Gallic region, and the establishment of Rome in Gaul. The chapter claims that "oppida" is the embryonic stage of Gallic cities. On the other hand, large-scale established new cities after Roman conquest Gaul impel the rise of Gallic urbanization.The second chapter is mainly on the development of urbanization of Gaul, especially concrete conditions and general characteristics of the development of its urbanization.The last chapter presents the conclusion of the dissertation. It evaluates the historical roles and influences of the urbanization of Gallic region, analyses the important status of its urbanization in the progress of Roman Empire.
