| During the last several years of Song Dynasty (the Southern Dynasties Period), the powerful chancellor Xiao Daocheng became more and more domineering. This kind of condition threatened other ministers such as Shen Youzhi, chief executive of Jingzhou State and another important minister Yuancan. Shen attempted to despoil Xiao of his authority and Yuan also wanted to overthrow Xiao and rebuild the royal" s prestige. They were supported by military forces that were not satisfied with Xiao Daocheng. At last , the two groups were united to declare war on Xiao. In this article, such factors are analysed as the composing of supporting-Xiao group and opposing-Xiao group, the precautions against Shen and YuanXiao Daocheng made, the reason why Shen and Yuan failed. The first part of this article reviewed the political situation of the Song Dynasty. In the second and third parts , the author analysed the groups of Shen Youzhi and Yuancan and the cause of the conflict between Shen-Yuan and Xiao. The author analysed the composition of the supporting-Xiao group and the precautions Xiao Daocheng made against Shen-Yuan in the forth part. The fifth part summarizes the reasons that causes the failure of Shen-Yuan. |
