Wu Yue Qian Regime Study

Wu Yue was a local regime which occupied Liang Zhe during the Five Dydasties and the early days of the Northern Song Dynasty. From the Later Liang Dynasty conferred Wu Yue Prince upon Qian Liu in the first year of Kai Ping(AD907), to Qian Chu offered Liang Zhe to the Northern Song Dynasty in the third year of Tai Ping Xing Guo(AD 978), The Qian's regime of Wu Yue existed for 72 years. Wu Yue's rising and setting up a separatist regime was not only the result of unrest of Central Plain's situation and regional economy's developing, but also in relation to the surrounding around Wu Yue. At the end of the Tang Dynasty, the power of controlling the local situation was weakened because of Central Plains' unrest. Wu, Nan Tang was confronted with Central Plains Dynasties each other over a long period of time, which stopped the southern invasion of Central Plains' Dynasties effectively and had effect on shielding Wu Yue's regime. Since the Tang Dynasty, the economy of Liang Zhe developed, which laid a material foundation to rule a part of the country for the Qian.During the Qian ruled Liang Zhe, for contending with those political powers around it, they took measures, which included ceasing wars inducing the farmersto work and building irrigation works for large-scale. These promoted the economy of Liang Zhe area to develop continually.The Qian's regime of Wu Yue laid stress on foreign contacts. In foreign policy, they pursued a policy that submitted itself the rule of Central Plains Dynasties, made friendly relation with other regimes and resisted Wu and Nan Tang. Wu Yue had contacts with Khitan regime, too. This policy kept continuous basically, though was made some readjustments from beginning to end.
