As a widespread story, The Circle of Chalk attracted much attention of the researchers. However, most of their researches fell into the category of traditional influence study. Different from theses researches, this thesis attempts to shed new lights on this much-rewritten text througha new approach-translation study. Taking Li-xingdao's Chinesedrama in one hand and an indirect English translation of his work by Frances Hume in the other, this thesis compares their differences in structural appearance, contents and specific words or phrases. This -comparison and the analysis of it eventually lead to the conclusion: religion is the hardest obstacle to surmount in the cultural exchange and communication between China and Western countries. |
