The research was to explore the combination of task-based learning with spoken English teaching in nursing classes of secondary vocational schools so as to find a new mode of spoken English teaching. The author analyzed the current situation of spoken English teaching in nursing classes of secondary vocational schools as well as the changes of nurses' responsibilities in the future , and suggested an appropriate application of task-based learning to the teaching of spoken English to nursing majors. By means of a series of tasks related to the students' future work, the new mode socialized and actualized spoken English teaching so as to strengthen the students' competence of language communication and help them learn what they need. Analysis of domestic and overseas reference documents and survey of the questionnaires were two methods adopted in the study. The teaching procedures applied to nursing classes were based on the framework of Jane Willis. Then, experiments were conducted with field surveys, and data analysis was made concerning the advantages and disadvantages of the practical use of task-based learning .The results of the research indicated that the framework of task-based learning with clear steps were easy to implement. It focused on the meaning of language as well as the form. Students could have a natural acquisition in the process of solving problems and implementing tasks. The application of task-based learning in secondary vocational schools was feasible and effective.
