There are over 30 sections of the book The Literary Mind: Elaboration concerned with comments on poems besides Ming-Shi and Yue-Fu which specially comment poems. It is obvious that LiuXie attached great importance to poems. The articles selected by The Literary Selection are approximately seven hundred pieces,in which the poems are about four hundred. Moreover ,the selected poems had been highly valued by latter generations and later there were statements about Xuan Shi and Xuan Ti. It makes known that XiaoTong's viewpoint of poems had its own characteristic. However, for long time scholars did not attach enough importance to the study of XiaoTong and LiuXie's viewpoints of poems and only occasionally mentioned it when they compared the two man's literary minds. Thoughts on these , this article chooses LiuXie and XiaoTong's viewpoints of poems as the object of study. It also tries to make a thorough and systematical study about the similarities and differences of LiuXie and XiaoTong's viewpoints of poems and the cause of formation. Then, it anticipates to understand the people's viewpoint of poems in Six Dynasty and the general picture of the development of poems in the middle ancient times from a certain point of view.Except for exordium, the article consists of five parts:A comment on LiuXie and XiaoTong's viewpoints of The Book of Songs:Both of them havetraditional Confucian literary viewpoint-formal standard. LiuXie used Confucian poetryeducation doctrine to comment on The Book of Songs; And he preferred elegance and taste of the book and regarded it as the criterion of the poetry writings. What LieXie had done was from his realization of the bad mood of poems existed in later generations. XiaoTong placed his idea of respecting classics on his style The Literary Selection selected works, which was partly because he wanted to maintain his father-XiaoYan's cultural policy.A perspective of LiuXie and XiaoTong on poems in JianAn Dynasty :LiuXie could properly generalize the characteristic and prosperous cause of the poems in JianAn Dynasty , but he did not pay attention to the difference of chronological sequence and not realize that the content of poems also changed when the literati living conditions changed . Furthermore, LiuXie's understanding of the theme and content of poems in JianAn Dynasty was biased. As far as recruitment of poems in The Literary Selection is concerned, XiaoTong's understanding of poems in JianAn Dynasty wascomprehensive.An attitude of LiuXie and XiaoTong to poetry circles in XiJin Dynasty: LiuXie criticized the overelaborate style of poems which is characterized by LuJi's style, but The Literary Selection paid great importance to XiJin Dynasty, especially LuJi. It makes known that both LiuXie and XiaoTong maintained that the ideal target for literary works must be the combination of literacy and simplicity, but LiuXie's comment on poems emphasized Simplicity and XiaoTong's was cline to Literacy.A viewpoint of LiuXie and XiaoTong about poems in Liu-Song Dynasty: Shan-Shui poems take place of Xuan-Yan poems in the early Liu-Song Dynasty. LiuXie fully confirmed its historic contribution, but he criticized the New and Strange of poems in artistic form. Although there was not a sort of Shan-Shui poems in The Literary Selection, XiaoTong had a distinguished understanding of the origin of Shan-Shui poems and XieLingYun's contribution to it Furthermore, both of them had a repelling attitude to BaoZhao's strange and vulgar works.A comparison of Liu Xie And Xiao Tong's viewpoint of Yue-fu poems:Liu Xie And Xiao Tong both lived in southern Dynasties.They shared the traditional concept of Yue-fu poems and aimed at leading Yue-fu poems to the right trend by criticizing its ills of times.However.as Liu Xie has been mainly influenced by Confucian theory of poetry.he prefered classical poems before Qin Dynesty and depreciated folk poems after Han and Wei Dynasties.While Xiao Tong favored folk poems after Han and Wei Dynasties and emphasized on the artistry of Yue -fu poe...
