The watercolour painting has already exprienced over a hundred years history in China.Since China has undergo over 30 years reform and opening-up, Chinese watercolour painting has developed rapidly.The watercolour painting is an exotic painting.Due to the factors, such as the differences in Chinese and Western cultures, in aesthetic standards, and in painting tools,inevitablely, there are certain differences exist between Chinese and Western watercolor painting .This thesis aim to identify the advantages and disadvantages that has been revealed in the development of Chinese watercolour painting through collecting and classifying a large number of Chinese and foreign watercolor works, and analysing and studying on auctual cases. This thesis will analyse the differences and similarities in developmental history, the theme and the art style, and watercolor painting skills of Chinese and Western watercolour painting in order to discuss the development direction of Chinese watercolour paintingAccording the analysis, this thesis claims that there are four directions of Chinese watercolor painting:(1)The combination of inheritance and innovation,(2)Combine with the Chinese traditional culture,(3)Combine with the contemporary real life,( 4 ) Pay attention on the propaganda and popularization of the watercolour painting.
