Though inscriptive writings' origin can be ascend to Han and WeiJin dynasty, it is Song dynasty that it is accepted as a style. This phenomenon is relative to the times inspiring, the evolution of prose's factors and the mental characters of the writers. The inscriptive writings of Su Shi and Huang Tingjian are both the embodiments of prosperity of science and culture in Song dynasty and the signal of the new exploitation of inscriptive writings' content and art. At the same time, their inscriptive writings exhibit the character and self-restraint of scholar-bureaucrats in Song dynasty. They are the most successful composers of the inscriptive writers. They advance this style greatly and make the style mature.This paper construct a reference frame for the studying of Su Shi's and Huang Tingjian's inscriptive writings. A systemic research is done on Su Shi's and Huang Tingjian's inscriptive writings in the paper. The paper consists of five parts:In the introduction, the condition of the research of Su Shi's and Huang Tingjian's inscriptive writings is summarized, and the important of research in this paper is described.In the first chapter, the signification of inscriptive writings is defined. The origin and the course of it's development are discussed. The value of Su Shi's and Huang Tingjian's inscriptive writings is pointed out.In the second chapter, the times reason of the form of Su Shi's and Huang Tingjian's inscriptive writings is analysed. The chapter focuses on the level of learning and culture in Song dynasty, the development of prose and the writer's interests, which all actively affect the Su Shi's and Huang Tingjian's inscriptive writings.In the third chapter, the deploitation and innovation of Su Shi's and HuangTingjian's inscriptive writings in the subject matter, the form, the expression and the interests are discussed. The chapter also compares Su Shi's inscriptive writings with Huang Tingjian's inscriptive writings hi the four aspects above.In the end, the paper summarized the status of Su Shi and Huang Tingjian's inscriptive writings hi history.
