In the late 17th century , Vietnam was nominally ruled by the Hou Le Dynasty , but, in fact, the country was controlled by Nguyen family in south and Trinh family in north . After putting down the Toy Son uprising from 1771 to 1802, Nguyen family united Vietnam and set up the Nguyen Dynasty. After invading Vietnam in the middle 19th century ,the French colonists forced the Hue treaty on the Vietnamese Nguyen and annexed the three eastern provinces in Nanqi , After dethroning Ming Dynasty , the Chinese Qing Dynasty gradually stabilized its rule over the whole country, suppressed the rebellion of the three vassals and resumed sovereignty over Taiwan .In the middle 19th century ,the western invasion threw China into the abyss of the semi-feudal and semi-colonial .In the aforementioned context, pushed by the both parts of China and Vietnam , brought along by the familial net and caused by other reasons , the adherents of Ming Dynasty, the Qing merchants , the miners , the left rebelling peasants and the members of some political organizations numerously migrated to Vietnam and became overseas Chinese . They and their descendants contributed greatly to the development of the Vietnamese social politics , economy and culture through acting as officers , agriculturists , miners, businessmen and registers to the invaders . During the period, under the circumstances of the stable Chinese suzerainty over Vietnam, the Vietnam feudal rulers, taking into account their national interests and with the aim of developing the economy and stabilizing the society , generally implemented a policy of kind treatment to the migrating Chinese . Simultaneously , they formulated a series of rules and regulations to strengthen the administration over the Chinese . Keeping in mind the intention of survival and promotion , the migrating Chinese were gradually absorbed and localized, and they finally became a component of the Vietnamese nationality and society.
