| The main point of this article is to collate Shuowen again according to the materials of it mat was quoted in Yupian canjuan which was passed back to china in the modern times and mat was quoted in the hand-written copy of the Tang-dynasty which was fouded in Dunhuang. These materials were not seen by many masters on the collation of Shuowen in the Qing-dynasty ,such as Duan yucai, Niti shuyu, Yon kejun, Shen too etc. ,so they are very valuable to the collation of Shuowen.This article is made up of four chapters. The first chapter is me Introduction. The second and the third chapters are the main body of the article. The second chapter mainly compares Shuowen quoted in the five kinds of materials with the two Xus' books. The third chapter analyses and arranges the different entries. After analysing and arranging,we have summed up the value of this part into three phasas, i.e. 1.Correcting the errors of the two Xus. 2. Solving the unsettled problems left by our predecessors. 3.Proving the errors of the five kinds of materials. The fourth chapter is the brief conclusion. There are five points. That is, l.The two Xus' books are generally cridible though they had many mistakes. The convincing proof is that mere are more than 1/2 of the entries quoted by the five kinds of materials which are the same with those in the books of die two Xus. 2. The different entries may also serve as important reference. 3.The conclusion that Shuowen ' quoted by die scholars of die Tang-dynasty were not fully credible' made by our predecessors is proved right again. 4.The view that die present Shuowen is die mixture of Shuowen and Zilin seems open to question. 5 .Although die scholars of die Qing-dynasty made great achievement in collating die two Xus ' books,owing to die limitation of era and materials, there exists defficJencies.These five kind of materials can be used to correct die errors made by scholars of me Qing-dynasty and solve die unsetded problems. |
