Mainly expressing young people's sexual passion and author's view- points of female morals, the medium-length novels of classical Chinese of Ming Dynasty carefully construct a world controlled by sexual desires and traditional morals. Having elaborately depicted human secular life and feelings, the medium-length novels of Ming Dynasty should be re- garded as rather earlier novels about affairs of human life in the history of Chinese novels, and their spirit of caring for the secular world have also enlightened following authors. Having strongly been influenced by the secular culture, the narra- tive mechanism of the medium-length novels demonstrates distinctive tendency of imitating Chinese vernacular novels. In these novels, the narrative person,scenes and quoted poems all possess the characteristics of vernacular novels. Therefore, the medium-length novels of classical Chinese of Ming Dynasty are products of the blending of classical Chinese novels and the vernacular novels. |
