| Machine Translation, a special case of common translation, refers to the transition from one natural language to another by means of using machines. The whole process of translation must be based on the meaning, which is to be put through, and a good translator must understand, hold, and maintain the meaning. However, semantic problems have always been a headache for MT. From a perspective viewpoint, the thesis here ventures to bring forth the theory of universal semantics and the theoretical design of USMT system, while managing to reveal the roots and nature of semantic problems within the relations between linguistics, mathematics, computer science and the art of translation. |
