Two "tang" Women Historical Research

Along with the development of women history ,the subject matter and viewpoint have changed much. As a result, it is very necessary to reexamine the documents that have been neglected.Therefore, this thesis, through systematic analysis and contrast study, investigates the number, writing style, ideas, historical significance, and so on, of all documents about female in New History of the Tang Dynasty and Old History of the Tang Dynasty, which included biography of women, empress and concubine?s biography and princess?biography.As a type of history record, two History of the Tang Dynasty have traditional function in recording history. This thesis has analyzed the way by which women history was recorded in official history and it is changed because status of female and the values toward female have changed in different period. After contrasting statistic material, I find that both the relative and absolute document number in two Tang Books decreased . That embodied the values toward female varied in different period.As official history documents about female in two History of the Tang Dynasty, they reflected official instruction in the ideology, and revealed the positive expectation of major society toward female moralities and values. Therefore, documents about female in two History of the Tang Dynasty deliberately erased and smoothed the female role in family, which had unique expression.As official history, two History of the Tang Dynasty tended to emphasize on political history, even documents about female also indicated political color. So the writing style characterized 揷lassification?, namely classifying the characters and incidents.Therefore, documents about female in official history have the different angled of view. They are authoritative for reference in studying the value toward female in 揺lite culture ?and they have relative scarcity in studying women life in accustomed state.
