The border of China is adjacent to Laos, the two countries get close contacts from the very old times. With the development of the ASEAN, the political and economic exchanges between the two countries become more broadly, the language and culture exchange between the two countries is getting more and more significant. Currently, the comparative studies of proverbs between Chinese and Lao are very in short, lack of comparative research on the language translation and comparative study of different cultures, to some extent, which makes influences to the further development of economic, cultural and other aspects of the two countries. This dissertation aims on the comparative study of proverbs between Chinese and Lao from various aspects of religious thoughts, moral values, life experiences and other aspects and compare the rhetoric, in order to reveal their similarities and differences in culture. So we can make the translation achieve better results by combining with the cultural background. Both China and Laos attain abundent cultural connotations, different world views and moral sense, therefore, translating the Lao proverb into Chinese should give thoughts to their different cultural background, it requires the translator must be based on the soil of Chinese culture, by using customary Chinese expression, keep the original form of source Language, in accordance with the Domesticating Translation and Foreignizing Translation approach, make the Foreignizing Translation to be the main principles, and the Domesticating Translation as a supplement approach in the proverb translation. When the vehicles of the source language are common sense and general affairs or events, we can choose Literally approaches; when the Lao proverb carries a strong national culture , we generally choose the method of annotated Literal translation; when the the source language and the target language get the same meaning or substantially using the same image of the proverbs or taking the same imagery and rhetoric to describe the same common sence, we can use methods of EquivalentTranslation; when the source language is difficult for the target readship, if we just make the Literal Translation, and the original information can not be expressed appropriately or the translation is plain and boring, we need to use the Free translation, in order to achieve the "transformation," "interpretation" and "representation" of the culuture.
