Synopsis of Prescriptions of the Golden Chamber, composed by Zhang Zhongjing, one eminent medical scientist in the late Eastern Han Dynasty, is a section of Treatise on Febrile and Miscellaneous Diseases, a section focused on discussing diagnosis of miscellaneous diseases due to internal injury. There are abundant medical books in ancient china; many scholars investigated the Golden Chamber from aspects of Chinese medicine diagnosis and treatment, TCM teaching, literature study and abundant results are achieved. However, those researchers, though fruitful, are confined in the medical field; little has been done on the study of vocabulary in medicine books. This paper attempts to examine the polysyllables in Synopsis of Prescriptions of the Golden Chamber through the special subject study.This thesis is composed of three parts, in the first part, the author classify the polysyllables of the Golden Chamber into three kinds in terms of grammar, they are nouns, verbs, and adjectives, special vocabularies of this book are also highly detailed in this part. In the second part, two kinds of polysyllables are classified in terms of structure, they are single polysyllables and compound polysyllables, among them, the rate of modified compound word is the highest and the coordinate compound word occupy the second place. The third part presents us the relations between morpheme meaning and word meaning. In The fourth part the homonyms and synonyms of medical names are generalized, it is helpful for readers to better understand the origins of word and its meaning. Meanwhile, it also exerts great influence on the Chinese medicine study, disease prevention and control. |
